Algarve

The Algarve is a region, sub-region and traditional continental Portugal province, being the southernmost of all. Coincides perfectly with the District of Faro, having an area of 5 412 km ² and a population of 451 005 inhabitants (0.06% of the population of Europe and 4.27% of the population of Portugal) is the most important tourist region of Portugal and one of the most important in Europe. Its Mediterranean temperate climate characterised by mild winters and short and long, hot and dry summers, warm and calm waters that bathe the southern coastline, its natural landscapes, historic and ethnographic heritage and delicious and healthy food are attributes that attract millions of domestic and foreign tourists every year and that make the Algarve the region most visited and one of the most developed in the country. The Algarve is, currently, the third richest region of Portugal, after the Tagus Valley and wood, with a GDP per capita of 86% of the EU average.
